North Bengal, December 2021

We reached our much sought after destination Yuru Retreat, Delo after darkness set only after frequent phone calls to the resort to ensure we are going in the right direction! We couldn't see much about the surroundings when we reached there. Since it was quite dark by then and appeared to be remote and lonely place. The resort at first glance in not so bright light appeared fine but noting special. We checked in, our luggage was shifted to our room and we ultimately settled down in our first destination after a long journey. The room was quite big, cozy and comfortable with nice dΓ©cor! From glass window wall in one side of the room it was clear that it's on a slope of the mountain and lights of small habitations mostly villages of Sikkim can be seen from there. It was biting cold and the forecast was temperature to fall as low as 2 degree Celsius at late night.

Sikkim villages from our room

The resort manager Mr Dibakar informed us that we must get up early at around 5.30 am to have a mind-blowing  panoramic view of the sun rise and the beauty of Sleeping Buddha from the roof top of the resort! We had our warm dinner at the room only since we were not keen to venture out to the dinning hall upstairs leaving the cozy comfort of our room. We retired early under three warm and soft quilts one above another to ward off the chill. πŸ˜πŸ˜€πŸ˜Š
Alarm rang at 5.30 and my mobile made it absolutely clear that the temperature at that moment is 3 degrees!!! It went down to 2 degree after midnight. At first I tried to check if anything can be seen from our huge wall to wall glass window. Outside appeared to be quite windy and eastern side was slowly getting first sun rays. The surroundings looked sleepy and ethereal in that early morning.

Slowly the eastern sky turned pink, red and I could under stand that all the snow capped mountains although still not properly visible are coming out of darkness and haze. These are moments to cherish life long. I didn't waste any more time and started to go to the terrace. One floor below that the dinning hall also has wonderful view of the grandeur of Kanchajhangha but if you want the full panoramic view of almost 360 degrees you will have to go to the terrace.
